The Good in Rising Gas Prices

It’s no surprise – those who commute to work every day are sorely feeling the pain of high gas prices. With no end to the crisis in sight, at the very least, gas prices are fueling positive changes in the American work place. More commuters than ever are aggressively pushing for alternative work arrangements in order to avoid allocating a big chunk of their paychecks to gas. This call for change is
quickly spurring a culture change – and could very well possibly turn the United States into a “telecommuter nation,” according to some workforce analysts.

Other than the rising fuel prices, a big problem that many companies are facing are the number of people quitting their jobs because they simply cannot afford to drive to work. In response, several of these companies are now allowing staff to work from home at least one day a month; and sometimes more often. While many employers are likely leery to make such changes, they soon find that by allowing telecommuting, they reap several benefits including reduced operational expenses and happier employees who are more likely to stay with the company for the long haul.

Telework centers – companies who are assisting companies with the transition to allow telecommuting – are sprouting all over the country.

If you love your job, but are sick of the commute – there are a number of ways you can approach your company about a flexible work arrangement, such as telecommuting. For more information on this and telecommuting overall, be sure to check out The Complete Guide to Telecommuting today!
